Minutes of First Official Meeting 4/27/1999

The first official meeting of the St. Petersburg Worlers Center was convened at 7:30 p.m. on April 27, 1999 at Joe Mocha's coffeehouse 330 9th St N. with John Feeney as acting chairman. At this meeting a workers center council was created to constitute the governing body of the workers center consisting of all persons present at the meeting who met the criteria and were willing to serve. These criteria were established as 1. Regular attendance at council meetings. 2. Solidarity with working people and economic justice for working people. 3. Non-management status within workplace. 4. Desire to participate in or be in solidarity with efforts to organize workers. This motion of the acting chair was seconded and given unanimous consent by a show of hands vote.

The acting charman then called for an election of a chair and co-chair for the counsil excluding himself from cnsideration due to the fact that he would very likely be leaving the state for continued education. By unanimous show of hands vote Susan Ketterer was elected chairperson having been nominated by John Feeney and Adam Campell - who nominated himself, was elected co-chair, also by unanimous consent. No other nominations were offered for these elective offices, among the twenty-five workers present.

Finally, it was determined after some discussion by unanimous show of hands vote, that meetings of the counsil would be conducted weekly with Monday, at 7:30 p.m. being the day and time established for meeting. After some further discussion of future possibilities for workers center activities, though no actual decisions, the new chairperson Susan Ketterer adjourned the meeting.

Recorded by John Feeney, Acting Chairman
